Bundesliga defense is too lenient with Harry Kane

Harry Kane is making scoring goals in the Bundesliga a simple game. The defenders in Germany do not seem to have found a solution to stop the English goalscorer.

On the day Bayern commemorated the legendary Franz Beckenbauer, Harry Kane also established his outstanding stature in German football. The English striker sealed the 3-0 victory over Hoffenheim with a comfortable finish in the penalty area.

This goal marked a special milestone for Kane as he equaled the record of 22 goals in the first half of the season that Robert Lewandowski achieved in the 2020/21 season. Even the Polish striker’s record of 41 goals in the 2020/21 season is at risk of being broken by Kane.

Like a giant in a tiny land, Kane walks ahead of any opponent in Germany. The former Tottenham striker did not need to get used to the tournament as he scored in both of his first two matches in the Bundesliga and found the back of the net in 14/17 opponents he has met since the beginning of the season.

Kane only really faces difficulty when playing in the Champions League. In 6 group stage matches this season, Bayern’s number one striker failed in half of the matches (3/6) against MU and Copenhagen.

In the match against Hoffenhem this morning, Kane comfortably received the ball right on the edge of the penalty area from Leon Goretzka’s slot. The English striker scored a goal while three opposing defenders rushed in too late.

That is a situation that rarely happens in the Premier League. The Bundesliga defenders, known for being “easy”, had to pay a heavy price against the top goalscorer from England.

There have been a total of 448 goals scored after 144 matches in the Bundesliga this season. The average number is 3.35 goals per match, the highest in the top 5 European championships.

Bundesliga is full of goals because all teams play quite openly. This is about the ideology of playing football, but in terms of the quality of playing football, specifically the defensive ability, it is quite mediocre.

That explains why a striker who 5 years ago was playing in the German Fourth Division, Serhou Guirassy, has 17 goals in the Bundesliga this season, thereby becoming a competitor for top scorer with Harry Kane.

Even Bayern’s defense, which is said to be the most solid in the tournament, is very vulnerable. Coach Thomas Tuchel’s team deserved to lose 2 goals against Hoffenheim if the away team’s strikers did not finish so poorly in their matches against Manuel Neuer.

It’s worth mentioning that Kane went to Bayern at the age of 30 after leaving behind his prime at Tottenham. Jadon Sancho, who fell out of favor at MU, also returned to Dortmund to restart his career. Even an Eric Dier whose time at Tottenham ended was brought to Germany’s number one team.

Kane has been unable to win the Premier League top scorer title in the past two seasons. But the Bundesliga top scorer is considered to be in the pocket of the English striker.

Kane’s level is quite far from the Bundesliga level, similar to the gap with competitors Serhou Guirassy (17 goals), Lois Openda (11 goals) and Victor Boniface (10 goals).
