Arsenal Agrees to Sell Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton

In the final days of the summer transfer window 2024, Arsenal has reached an agreement to sell goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton.

Although Ramsdale was once the number one goalkeeper at Arsenal, he has since played a backup role following Mikel Arteta’s interest in David Raya.

The arrival of the Spanish goalkeeper from Brentford reduced Ramsdale’s opportunities to play regularly for Arsenal. After making just 11 appearances across all competitions in the 2023/24 season, Arsenal has given Ramsdale the green light to leave.

According to the latest information from journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal has struck a deal with Southampton for Ramsdale. The 1998-born goalkeeper will soon undergo a medical examination before signing the contract.

Arsenal will initially receive £18 million from the transfer. Additionally, there are £7 million in potential add-ons: £1 million will be paid to Arsenal if Southampton successfully avoids relegation from the Premier League, and the remaining £6 million will be based on Ramsdale’s performance at Southampton with specific criteria.

At his peak with Arsenal, Ramsdale was valued at up to €40 million. However, after a year as a backup, his value has dropped to €25 million according to Transfermarkt. Therefore, Arsenal aims to sell Ramsdale promptly to avoid further depreciation.

On the flip side, Arsenal is rushing to sign Joan Garcia, a goalkeeper currently with Espanyol, to fill the backup goalkeeper position vacated by Ramsdale.

After securing quality signings like Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino, Arsenal is not planning to stop there. The club is reportedly looking to add another forward, with Darwin Nunez and Evan Ferguson being potential targets.
