Kompany Furious with Kim Min-jae

Bayern Munich’s manager, Vincent Kompany, expressed his frustration with Kim Min-jae following a critical mistake that led to their second goal conceded.

After new signing Sacha Boey’s error resulted in a penalty that allowed Wolfsburg to level the score at 1-1 in the 47th minute, Kim Min-jae made a significant mistake just 8 minutes later.

The South Korean center-back lost possession easily on the right side of the defense, and Patrick Wimmer quickly seized the opportunity, charging towards Bayern’s goal. Kim attempted to chase back but only managed to touch the ball lightly, failing to prevent a pass to Lovro Majer, who had no trouble scoring to make it 2-1.

In the post-match press conference, new coach Vincent Kompany made his dissatisfaction clear and sharply criticized his players’ performance in the second half. Although he did not mention Kim Min-jae by name, his comments were clearly directed at the situation.

“In the second half, we played very poorly, making numerous mistakes in ball distribution, including a major error that led to the second goal,” Kompany said.

Echoing Kompany’s sentiments, former player Sami Khedira also criticized the South Korean defender’s mistake.

“It was a clear individual error,” Khedira remarked on DAZN-Expert. However, he stressed that Kim should not be overly criticized. “It’s not the time to criticize Kim, especially not on the first day of the season,” the 2014 World Cup champion added.

Nevertheless, Khedira was surprised by Kim’s performance, noting that the defender had been a different player at Napoli.

“In Serie A, he was a monster, chasing every ball, winning every duel. Victor Osimhen felt desperate in training sessions, and he was relieved when Kim left. The Kim we see at Bayern Munich is not the same as the one we saw before,” Khedira said.

In the 81st minute, the 27-year-old defender was substituted for Eric Dier. A minute later, Serge Gnabry scored the decisive goal, securing a 3-2 victory for Bayern. Despite the challenge Kim added to the match, Bayern still had reason to celebrate the win.
