OFFICIAL: Neuer Bids Farewell to Germany National Team

Manuel Neuer has officially announced his retirement from the German national team via his personal social media accounts.

Neuer made his debut for Germany in 2009, and after more than 15 years of service, the 38-year-old goalkeeper has accumulated 124 caps across all competitions.

The pinnacle of Neuer’s international career was winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he was also awarded the “Best Goalkeeper” title.

“Today, I announce my decision to retire from the national team,” Neuer wrote on Instagram. “Those who know me well understand that I have thought this through carefully before making this decision. Although my physical condition still allows me to compete in the 2026 World Cup, I believe this is the right time to end my journey with the national team.”

Following Neuer’s announcement, the German Football Association (DFB) expressed their gratitude to the former Schalke 04 star.

“There are no words to fully express our feelings, above all: Thank you, Neuer, for your contributions, especially for the character, fighting spirit, and inspiration you have provided to the next generation of players and millions of football fans around the world,” the DFB wrote. “You have completely transformed the role of a goalkeeper. In this team, you were a leader, a role model, and a friend.”

Two days before Neuer’s announcement, Ilkay Gündogan also retired from international duty.

At the club level, Neuer has achieved significant success with Bayern Munich, winning 11 Bundesliga titles, 2 Champions League trophies, and 2 Club World Cups.
