Ten Hag Faces Critical Two-Match Period to Save His Job

According to former renowned striker Alan Shearer, the future of manager Erik ten Hag at Manchester United could be decided by the next two matches.

Last Sunday, Manchester United suffered a humiliating 0-3 defeat at home against Liverpool. Despite the Premier League 2024/25 season only being three rounds old, Ten Hag’s future is already under scrutiny.

Currently, Manchester United is positioned 14th in the league table following two consecutive losses. Fans of the Red Devils are beginning to lose faith in Ten Hag.

The crushing defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford highlighted numerous issues within the team. Despite spending over £200 million this summer to bring in players like Mazraoui, Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, and De Ligt, the dismal performance of Casemiro and his teammates suggests that they are unlikely to contend for the Premier League title in 2024/25.

Given this situation, English football legend Alan Shearer has stated that Ten Hag has just two games to turn things around. After the international break in early September, Manchester United will face newly-promoted Southampton away in the Premier League on September 14. Three days later, they will return to Old Trafford to face lower-league Barnsley in the League Cup.

Shearer’s view is as follows: “Manchester United’s performance must significantly improve if Ten Hag is to remain at the club through Christmas. His future will depend on these next two matches.

After embarrassing losses to Brighton and Liverpool, if United doesn’t show clear progress in the next two games, Ten Hag will face immense pressure from fans and the board. The atmosphere at Old Trafford will become even more tense if the Red Devils continue to disappoint.”

According to British media, if Manchester United decides to make a managerial change, assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy is a likely candidate for the role.
